Malaysia's CelcomDigi accepts additional spectrum for its mobile network

Additional spectrum puts coverage and capacity planning in focus. What enterprise buyers should test at their own sites before relying on a mobile connection.

On October 15, 2026, Malaysia’s CelcomDigi announced acceptance of additional spectrum assignments: paired 2×20 MHz in the 2600 MHz band and 2×5 MHz in the 900 MHz band. The company links the additional resource to capacity and coverage development. Assignment does not imply an immediate quality change at every site.

The engineering basis of enterprise connectivity

Our editorial interest is the infrastructure behind mobile services. A network needs to provide coverage, accommodate traffic growth and connect devices inside buildings. Peak speed alone does not describe all three tasks.

For a business, the practical question is whether a shop, warehouse or remote employee can complete the required operation under actual conditions. That depends on equipment, location and load alongside the operator’s spectrum resources.

Test at the actual site

When selecting a mobile connection, collect measurements in working areas during normal operating hours. Check uplink demand, session stability and application behavior as connection quality changes.

Useful pilot scenarios include:

  • sending data from the room where equipment operates;
  • connecting several devices concurrently;
  • switching to a backup connection;
  • recovering an unfinished operation after disconnection.

Compare contractual conditions with observed results, retaining location, time and test configuration.

Different services need different evidence

Internet-access quality is not a direct delivery metric for SMS, voice or a specific enterprise integration. Each service needs its own reference operations and measurements.

The branch connectivity resilience guide covers redundancy choices, while the SMS and DLR metrics guide discusses message outcomes. Malaysia’s announcement illustrates telecom infrastructure development; a working-scenario test establishes the suitability of a particular service.
