Rostelecom moves part of an oncology centre's infrastructure to a protected cloud
A regional oncology centre moved information systems to a protected cloud environment with dedicated cryptographic equipment and backup capability.

Rostelecom says it has moved part of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Oncology Centre’s IT infrastructure into a protected cloud. The project covered virtual machines, a protected communications channel, dedicated cryptographic equipment, and database migration.
The initial scope
According to the company, the move was completed with minimal downtime. About 3 GB of data was hosted in the cloud at publication time, with backup available to the customer. The vendor says the design considered requirements applicable to a medical organisation’s information systems.
The first data set is small. The more relevant signal is the construction of a controlled environment around it: connectivity, compute, the cryptographic boundary, administrator access, and recoverability.
Controls for a comparable migration
- Classify data and dependencies before copying begins.
- Define tolerated downtime and a return point in advance.
- Revalidate service-account permissions in the destination.
- Test restoration rather than merely confirming backup creation.
- Separate provider responsibilities from system-owner responsibilities.
- Monitor privileged access and administrative actions.
Medical systems require particular care around personal and sensitive data. A public “protected cloud” label is not enough for assurance: the customer still needs contractual parameters, a threat model, supporting certificates, and its own acceptance evidence.
Limits of the announcement
The release does not disclose topology, RPO/RTO targets, the complete set of certified controls, SLA terms, or independent audit results. It documents one project stage and should not be treated as proof that the same design fits another medical or enterprise system.
